Christchurch winters reward preparation. A little attention before the cold sets in means your first fire of the season lights easily and burns the way it should.
Book your sweep early
Autumn is the ideal time. The previous season's soot and creosote get cleared before you need the fire every night — call 027 570 2027 to arrange it.
Burn dry wood only
Well-seasoned, dry firewood burns hotter and leaves far less creosote than damp wood. Stack it under cover with airflow and it will repay you all winter.
Check the cowl and airflow
Make sure the chimney cowl is in place and air vents are unblocked, so the flue can draw freely when the southerly blows through.
